Vehicle history:
Krupp Protze, also known as Protzkraftwagen, was produced by the German company Friedrich Krupp AG. Its design began in 1929, and serial production started in 1934. This vehicle was mainly used as an artillery tractor and for transporting infantry, making it an extremely versatile and essential element of the Wehrmacht's equipment.
The first version, designated L 2 H 43, was powered by a 3.3-liter engine with an output of 55 HP and had a 6×4 drive. In 1936, an improved version L 2 H 143 was introduced, featuring a more powerful 4-cylinder Krupp M 304 engine with 60 HP and an increased rear axle spacing. In total, approximately 7000 units of both versions were produced between 1934 and 1942.
Krupp Protze was known for its reliability and ability to move in difficult terrain, making it ideal for logistical and combat tasks. This vehicle also served as the basis for the construction of prototype versions L 2 H 243 and L 2 H 343, which had engines with 70 HP and various drive configurations.
