Original vehicle M1126 Stryker:
The M1126 Stryker is one of the variants of the family of wheeled armored vehicles that have been a key element of the United States Army's equipment since 2002. This vehicle is based on the Canadian LAV III transporter and was designed to enhance the mobility and protection of military units. The Stryker is part of the so-called Stryker Brigade Combat Team, a light brigade aimed at rapidly deploying forces anywhere in the world in a short time.
The name "Stryker" was given in honor of two American soldiers, Stuart S. Stryker and Robert F. Stryker, who were awarded the Medal of Honor for their heroism during World War II and the Vietnam War.
The hull made of high-quality steel plates, reinforced with ceramic plates, provides protection against fire from 7.62 mm and 14.5 mm caliber anti-tank rounds and artillery fragments. Additional anti-cumulative shields protect against attacks from handheld anti-tank grenade launchers.
Standard equipment includes a remotely operated weapon module M153 CROWS II with a Mk 19 grenade launcher or Browning M2 machine gun. Some versions may be equipped with turret systems with a 30 mm automatic cannon or Javelin anti-tank missiles.
Combat use:
Strykers were first used in combat during the stabilization mission in Iraq in 2003 and later in Afghanistan. These vehicles gained recognition for their ability to protect the crew from improvised explosive devices (IEDs), making them indispensable in combat operations.
