About the M1151 Enhanced Armament Carrier: The M1151 Enhanced Armament Carrier is an upgraded version of the standard Humvee (HMMWV), designed in response to the requirements of the United States Central Command. This vehicle replaced the M1025A2 model and features a heavier chassis and an improved engine, allowing for the installation of additional armor. Built on the Expanded Capacity Vehicle chassis, the M1151 can carry more passengers or additional supplies weighing up to 2300 pounds.
History and application: The Humvee, or High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, is a family of light, four-wheeled military vehicles produced by AM General. These vehicles replaced many earlier models, such as the original jeep, the M151 Jeep from the Vietnam War, the M561 "Gama Goat," and other light trucks. Humvees were widely used by the U.S. military, as well as by other countries and organizations, and even in civilian adaptations.
During the Gulf War in 1991, Humvees gained popularity due to their ability to traverse desert terrain, which inspired the creation of civilian versions of the Hummer. However, the original unarmored design proved insufficient in the face of improvised explosive devices during the Iraq War. In response, the United States quickly armored selected models and replaced frontline units with MRAP vehicles. As part of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program, in 2015 the U.S. Army selected the Oshkosh L-ATV as the successor to the Humvee in frontline service.
