MiG-23S Flogger:
The MiG-23, known in NATO as "Flogger," is a variable geometry wing fighter designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau in the Soviet Union. It was a third-generation jet fighter that stood out among other Soviet designs, such as the Su-17 "Fitter." The MiG-23 was the first Soviet fighter equipped with a radar capable of detecting and attacking targets below the horizon and one of the first armed with missiles capable of engaging targets beyond visual range.
Production of the MiG-23 began in 1969 and reached an impressive number of over 5,000 units produced, making it the most widely produced variable geometry wing aircraft in history. Although many have been retired from service, the MiG-23 still remains in limited service in some countries.
The MiG-23 was designed as a successor to the MiG-21, which, although fast and agile, had limited operational capabilities due to its primitive radar, short range, and limited armament. The new aircraft was intended to offer better performance and range, as well as more advanced avionics and armament, including BVR (Beyond Visual Range) missiles.
One of the key requirements was to improve takeoff and landing performance, which led to the consideration of two options: the use of lift engines and variable geometry wings. Ultimately, the latter option was chosen, resulting in the prototype "23-11," which made its first flight on June 10, 1967.
Assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. To assemble, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
