Dassault Mirage IIIC
The Mirage IIIC is the first main production model from the Mirage III family, developed by the French company Dassault Aviation. This aircraft was the first Western European fighter to exceed Mach 2 in level flight, which occurred on October 24, 1958. The Mirage IIIC was equipped with a Snecma Atar turbojet engine with an afterburner, allowing it to achieve impressive speeds and maneuverability.
The Mirage IIIC was designed as a single-seat interceptor and entered service with the French Air Force in July 1961. A total of 95 units of this model were ordered, which remained in service until 1988. The Mirage IIIC was armed with two 30 mm DEFA cannons and could carry various armaments, including AIM-9B Sidewinder air-to-air missiles, later replaced by Matra R550 Magic, and radar-guided Matra R530 missiles.
This aircraft was widely exported and used by many countries, including Argentina, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, and Israel. The Mirage IIIC participated in numerous armed conflicts, including the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War, where the Israeli Air Force successfully used it both as an air superiority fighter and as a strike aircraft.
