Historical background: Francis Stanley "Gabby" Gabreski, born as Franciszek Stanisław Gabryszewski, was a Polish-American pilot who served in the United States Air Force for 26 years, achieving the rank of colonel. During World War II, he became the top American fighter ace in Europe, destroying over 34.5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. His skills and experience also allowed him to become a fighter ace during the Korean War, where he shot down 6.5 aircraft.
P-47 Thunderbolt: The P-47, known as the "Jug," was one of the primary fighters of the USAAF during World War II. Equipped with eight .50 caliber machine guns, it could carry rockets or bombs with a total weight of up to 2,500 pounds. With its powerful Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine and advanced turbocharger, the P-47 dominated at high altitudes and was known for its durability against combat damage.
F-86 Sabre: The F-86 Sabre, also known as the Sabrejet, was the first American fighter with swept wings, capable of engaging Soviet MiG-15s during the Korean War. Although developed in the late 1940s, the Sabre proved to be versatile and adaptable, remaining in service with many air forces around the world.
