Historical background: In September 1939, the Polish Air Force consisted of elite fighter pilots and dedicated ground crew, who, despite the technological and numerical superiority of the enemy, fought with determination and courage. Polish pilots, using flexible and team tactics, achieved successes, although this conflict cost them the loss of most of their equipment by September 17, 1939. Those who survived and managed to escape continued the fight, forming significant Polish air squadrons in France and Great Britain, playing a key role in the Battle of Britain.

The Pursuit Brigade, being the main force of air defense of Warsaw, heroically defended the capital, even though its aircraft were outdated, and the odds were as high as 1 to 10. Polish pilots effectively thwarted German air raids, shooting down dozens of aircraft. However, the lack of reserves, fuel, spare parts, and ground support and coordination significantly hampered their efforts.
