History of PZL W-3 Sokół:
PZL W-3 Sokół is a multi-role helicopter designed and produced by Polish PZL Świdnik factories. Its history dates back to the 1970s when, under an agreement between Poland and the USSR, work began on a new helicopter to replace the Mi-4. As a result of consultations with potential recipients in the USSR, the Polish side proposed a completely new machine powered by the PZL-10W engine, which was accepted.
The first prototype was completed in 1978, and the official first flight took place in 1982. Serial production began in 1987, and to date, about 150 units have been produced in various variants. The helicopter is used in many countries, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Russia.
PZL W-3 Sokół is used in various roles, including as a transport, rescue, police, and military helicopter. Armed versions were tested but did not enter mass production. The helicopter has also been used in foreign missions, such as operations in Iraq, where it performed transport, rescue, and fire support functions.
Historical significance:
PZL W-3 Sokół is one of the most important achievements of the Polish aviation industry. Its design and production were the result of international cooperation and innovative technical solutions. The helicopter has gained recognition worldwide for its versatility and reliability, as evidenced by its wide application in various countries and conditions.
