History and significance of the Renault FT-17: The Renault FT-17 was the first mass-produced tank to feature armament in a fully rotating turret. Its innovative design influenced the development of tanks worldwide. Over 3000 units of this model were produced, most of them in 1918. After the end of World War I, FT-17 tanks were exported to many countries, and their design became an inspiration for other models, such as the American M1917, the Italian Fiat 3000, and the Soviet T-18.
The Renault FT-17 played a key role in many interwar conflicts, although by the beginning of World War II, it was already considered outdated. Nevertheless, it continued to be used by various armies, including the French, Polish, Finnish, and Yugoslav. During World War II, some of these tanks were used as fixed defensive points along the Maginot Line.
Service and combat use: The Renault FT-17 debuted on the battlefield on May 31, 1918, during the Third Battle of the Aisne. These tanks were widely used by French and American forces on the Western Front in the final stages of World War I. After the war, FT-17s were used in many conflicts around the world, including the Polish-Bolshevik War, the Russian Civil War, and various colonial conflicts.
