RMS Titanic – historical background:
The RMS Titanic was a British ocean liner that, at the time of its entry into service, was the largest ship in the world. Built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Titanic was the second of three Olympic-class liners designed for the White Star Line. The ship was a symbol of luxury and modernity, offering its passengers the highest standard of comfort, including luxurious cabins, restaurants, a swimming pool, a gym, and a Turkish bath.
The Titanic was equipped with advanced safety systems for its time, such as watertight compartments and remotely operated watertight doors, which contributed to its reputation as "unsinkable." Unfortunately, during its maiden voyage, the Titanic collided with an iceberg and sank, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,500 people out of 2,224 on board. This disaster was one of the most tragic ship sinkings in peacetime and had a significant impact on changes in maritime safety regulations.
