Dodge WC-54 – historical background:

The Dodge WC-54, also known as Ambulance, 3/4-ton, 4x4, was the main variant of the military ambulance of the Dodge WC series, developed during World War II. Produced from 1942 to 1945, it served as the primary ambulance dedicated to the U.S. Army, alongside many multipurpose jeeps performing the same function. These vehicles were also used during the Korean War by the United States Army Medical Corps, and some were in service until 1953. In the armies of some European countries, they served even into the 1960s.

Drivers preferred the WC-54 compared to other ambulances, such as the Ford or Austin K2/Y, due to its 4x4 drive. It was described as a vehicle not much harder to drive than a passenger car, and its maneuverability and reliability were highly valued. Between 1942 and 1945, approximately 255,000 vehicles of the WC series were produced, of which 29,502 were ambulances – 26,002 of the WC-54 model and 3,500 of the WC-64 KD model.
