History and technical background of the M1A2 Abrams:
The M1 Abrams is a third-generation American main battle tank, designed by Chrysler Defense (now General Dynamics Land Systems) and named after General Creighton Abrams. Introduced into service in 1980, it became the main battle tank of the United States Army. This tank is known for introducing modern technologies such as a multi-fuel turbine engine, advanced Chobham composite armor, a computer fire control system, and separate storage of ammunition in an explosion-proof compartment.
The M1 Abrams was developed after the failure of the joint American-German MBT-70 project, which aimed to replace the outdated M60 tank. There are three main operational versions of the Abrams: M1, M1A1, and M1A2, with each subsequent version introducing improvements in armament, protection, and electronics.
TUSK II:
The Tank Urban Survival Kit (TUSK) is a series of upgrades for the M1 Abrams tank aimed at improving combat capabilities in urban environments. The TUSK II package includes:
- Reactive armor on the sides of the tank and cage armor at the rear, protecting against anti-tank grenades and other shaped charges.
- Transparent armored shield for the M240B machine gun of 7.62 mm caliber mounted on the turret.
- Thermal sighting system for the loader.
- Remote-controlled turret with a 12.7 mm caliber machine gun, allowing operation without exposing personnel to fire.
- External phone enabling communication with supporting infantry.
Assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
