Historical background: The North American B-25 Mitchell is an American medium bomber introduced into service in 1941, named after Brigadier General William "Billy" Mitchell, a pioneer of American military aviation. The B-25 was used by many Allied air forces and served on all fronts of World War II. After the war, many of these aircraft remained in service for decades. Nearly 10,000 units were produced in various variants, making it the most widely produced American medium bomber.
The B-25 played a crucial role in the Pacific War, especially in the Doolittle Raid, which was the first American air attack on Japanese territory. This bomber was also used in campaigns in the Aleutians, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, China, Burma, and in the island-hopping campaign in the Central Pacific. Due to its versatility, the B-25 became an effective weapon against enemy naval units, as well as in attacks on ground targets.
The Battle of Midway: The Battle of Midway, which took place from June 4 to 7, 1942, was one of the most important naval engagements in the Pacific during World War II. The Japanese fleet, commanded by Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, suffered a decisive defeat at the hands of the American Pacific Fleet. By breaking Japanese codes, the Americans were able to prepare an effective ambush that resulted in the sinking of four Japanese aircraft carriers and the heavy cruiser Mikuma. This battle, along with the campaign in Guadalcanal, is considered a turning point in the Pacific War.
