About the F-35A Lightning II:
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is an American single-engine, supersonic multirole stealth fighter. It is designed to perform missions in both air superiority and strike roles. Additionally, the F-35 has capabilities for conducting electronic warfare and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
The F-35A is the variant designed for conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL), primarily intended for the United States Air Force (USAF) and other air forces around the world. It is the smallest and lightest version of the F-35 family, capable of withstanding g-forces of up to 9 g, making it the most agile among all variants.
The F-35 aircraft originates from the Lockheed Martin X-35 project, which won the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program in 2001, defeating the competing Boeing X-32 project. The JSF program aimed to replace older models such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Hornet, and McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II.
The development of the F-35 is primarily funded by the United States, with additional financial support from NATO partner countries and close U.S. allies such as Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, and previously Turkey. Despite criticism regarding its size, complexity, rising costs, and delivery delays, this program is a key element of the future of military aviation for the U.S. and its allies.
