History and development of the AH-1Z Viper: The AH-1Z Viper is a twin-engine attack helicopter, an evolution of the AH-1W SuperCobra, designed and produced by the American manufacturer Bell Helicopter. It is one of the latest members of the Bell Huey family. This helicopter was developed under the H-1 modernization program for the USMC, aimed at upgrading the existing AH-1W. The AH-1Z and Bell UH-1Y Venom share many common components, allowing for reduced operational costs.
The AH-1Z Viper is equipped with a four-blade, bearingless main rotor system, modern avionics systems, updated weapon systems, and electro-optical sensors. These changes have enhanced the helicopter's survivability, target detection capabilities at greater distances, and precision strike capabilities.
Armament and equipment:
- 20 mm rotary cannon
- AGM-114 Hellfire and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles
- Two types of rocket pods
- Lockheed Martin targeting system with third-generation FLIR sensor
Operational use: The AH-1Z Viper plays a key role in Aviation Combat Element (ACE) tasks within USMC expeditionary operations. This helicopter supports various phases of operations, including air support, anti-air combat, assault support, and aerial reconnaissance. Since its introduction into service, the AH-1Z has undergone numerous upgrades, including the installation of the Link 16 datalink and the equipping of AGM-179A Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM) missiles.
Assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. Assembly requires separately sold modeling tools (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
