History and achievements: The F-4 Phantom II is one of the most recognizable combat aircraft of the Cold War era. Introduced into service in 1961, it became a key component of the United States Air Force, including the Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force. A total of 5,195 units were produced between 1958 and 1981, making it the most widely produced American supersonic aircraft.
The F-4 Phantom II set 15 world records for flight performance, including absolute speed and altitude records. It was widely used during the Vietnam War, both as an air superiority fighter and as a ground support and reconnaissance aircraft. During this war, all American pilots who became aces flew the F-4.
VMFA-232 "Red Devils": VMFA-232 is one of the oldest and most decorated fighter squadrons in the United States Marine Corps. Its history dates back to 1925, and over the years, the unit has participated in many armed conflicts, including World War II, the Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm. The "Red Devils" are known for the distinctive red devil on their aircraft.
During the Vietnam War, VMFA-232 operated from bases in Da Nang and Chu Lai, conducting ground support missions and participating in strategic bombing operations. In 1972, the unit was relocated to Thailand, from where it continued combat missions over North Vietnam.
