The model depicts the ship's condition from April 1945, when it participated in Operation Ten-Go as a screen for the battleship Yamato.
History of the original:
Yukikaze (Jap. "Snow Wind") was a Kagero-class destroyer that gained the nickname "lucky" or "unsinkable" ship. It was the only one of the 38 modern Japanese Navy strike destroyers to survive the entire Pacific War in operational condition. It participated in almost all key engagements, from the invasion of the Philippines, through the Battle of Midway, the fighting for Guadalcanal (as part of the Tokyo Express), up to the Battle of Leyte Gulf and Yamato's final voyage. After the war, it served in the Republic of China Navy under the name Tan Yang.
