A plastic model kit depicting the German 5 cm Pak38 anti-tank gun (Panzerabwehrkanone 38) with its crew, made in 1:35 scale by Tamiya. The Pak38 was developed by Rheinmetall in 1938 as a successor to the standard 3.7 cm Pak 36 gun. The new design introduced a number of innovations, including a barrel with a muzzle brake, a lightweight carriage made of aluminum alloys, and a characteristic, double-layered armor shield with a thickness of 4 mm. The gun made its combat debut in 1940 during the French campaign, but its key role came during the fighting on the Eastern Front and in North Africa, where it was one of the few German anti-tank guns of that period capable of effectively engaging the armor of Soviet T-34 tanks.
