Description
Plastic model kit: Japanese aircraft cruiser Mogami with maritime port scenery set 1:700 Tamiya 25416
The model kit in 1:700 scale depicts the Japanese aircraft cruiser Mogami along with an elaborate maritime base scenery. Mogami was a unique unit of the Imperial Japanese Navy, which, after sustaining damage in the Battle of Midway, was converted into an aircraft cruiser, allowing it to carry up to 11 seaplanes.
The set allows for the creation of a complete port diorama. The kit includes:
- Mogami cruiser model in aircraft configuration.
- Port infrastructure elements: port cranes (2 types), workshop and storage buildings (3 types), quays, and smaller technical facilities.
- Deck seaplanes.
History of the unit:
Mogami, launched in 1934, initially served as a light cruiser and was later rearmed with 203 mm guns, becoming a heavy cruiser. Its most characteristic silhouette was created after 1942 when the rear part of the deck was fitted with a platform for seaplanes. The ship participated in key operations in the Pacific, including the Battle of Leyte Gulf, where it was ultimately sunk in October 1944.
