The Leopard 2 A7V is the most modern variant of the German main battle tank, forming the backbone of the Bundeswehr's armored forces and many European armies. The A7V version (where "V" stands for "verbessert" – improved) was developed to increase firepower, protection, and mobility. This tank received additional armor on the front hull, a reinforced running gear, and an upgraded fire control system, while retaining the powerful 120 mm L/55 smoothbore cannon.
