Description
Plastic model kit U.S. M41 Walker Bulldog in 1:35 scale
An American light tank designed to replace the M24 Chaffee tank.
The design of this vehicle began in 1947. It was intended to be air-transportable and armed with a long-barreled 76 mm gun. The first prototype meeting these expectations was created in 1949 under the designation "M41". After a series of trials and tests, production began in 1951 at Cadillac's Cleveland Tank Plant. By 1953, the M41 had already replaced the outdated M24 Chaffee. Initially called "Little Bulldog," it was renamed "Walker Bulldog" in honor of General Walton Walker, who died in a Jeep accident during the Korean War (1950).
The M41 was a well-armed and mobile tank; however, its main drawbacks included high fuel consumption, noisy engine operation, and a large weight that complicated air transport. In 1952, the U.S. Army wanted to create lighter tanks (T71, T92), but these projects were canceled, extending the service life of the M41.
