Description
Plastic model car to assemble: Renault 5 Turbo 1:24 Tamiya 24368
[French rocket with a centrally mounted engine] The popular front-wheel-drive Renault 5 (Cinque) was launched in 1972. Based on this 5, the 5 Turbo was developed with the aim of winning the World Rally Championship and was announced in 1981. The 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine, mounted in the middle of the vehicle, in the rear seat area, generates 160 horsepower combined with a turbocharger and an electronically controlled fuel injection system. The maximum speed is 200 km/h, and the time to cover 400 m is 15 seconds. Moreover, the suspension features four independent wheels with double wishbones, and ventilated disc brakes are used both front and rear, improving not only driving characteristics but also braking power. Additionally, the body with flared fenders looks exceptionally attractive, the roof and doors are made of aluminum, while the hood and fenders are made of resin, resulting in a body weight of 910 kg. The luxurious interior of the car highlights its high performance, including a dashboard with 10 small diameter gauges and leather seats. The 5 Turbo model, with its impressive body and advanced mechanisms, achieved its first victory at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1981. Since then, it has enjoyed tremendous success in rallies across the country, competing against the same high-powered four-wheel-drive machines.
