FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The following sections present some points and technical tips regarding Light-Curing Putty in the form of questions and answers.

Q: Will light-curing putty harden under UV light?
A: No. The putty will harden under sunlight or fluorescent light. Therefore, it does not require any special lighting device. It is not recommended to use any lighting device that generates high heat, such as an incandescent lamp, as this may cause air bubbles to form in the putty.

Q: Can Light-Curing Putty be applied thickly?
A: Yes. However, it is best to do this in separate layers. Apply the putty in layers of 2mm thickness, ensuring that light can penetrate to the bottom. By applying another 2mm layer of putty after the underlying layer has dried, you can achieve the desired thickness. Different types of putties can also be applied on top of the Light-Curing Putty layer.

Q: Will Light-Curing Putty cure under standard room lighting?
A: Light-Curing Putty will not cure quickly under indirect light sources, such as standard room lighting. When working with the putty, avoid direct sunlight and turn off all lights directed at the work area. It is not recommended to cure the putty solely under room light, as the putty may not cure completely.

Q: What is the best way to store Light-Curing Putty?
A: After opening the tube once, screw the cap back on and store the tube in a light-protective bag (included with the putty). Then store it in a cool, shaded place.

Q: Does light-curing putty adhere securely to surfaces?
A: With its smooth paste properties, the putty easily adheres to most surfaces. To ensure that the putty adheres securely, it is recommended to roughen the surface in advance using sandpaper (#180-#400).

Q: How hard will light-curing putty become after curing?
A: The putty retains a smooth finish even after complete drying, providing easy machinability. It will harden slightly softer than regular plastic parts (polystyrene).

Q: Are there any other things to pay attention to?
A: After the Light-Curing Putty has dried, the surface may become slightly greasy. This can be easily removed by wiping with a soft cloth dampened with Tamiya lacquer thinner or sanding with Tamiya finishing abrasives.
