Description
Plastic model car to assemble: Volkswagen Golf I GTI 1:24 Fujimi 126814
The Volkswagen Golf Mk1 is the first generation of a small family car produced and sold by Volkswagen. It was noteworthy for signaling the shift of Volkswagen's main car lines from rear-wheel drive with rear-mounted air-cooled engines to front-wheel drive with front-mounted, water-cooled engines, which were often mounted transversely.
The successor to the Volkswagen Beetle, the first-generation Golf debuted in Europe in May 1974 with styling by Italdesign Giorgetto Giugiaro.
The name of the car is usually referred to as an acronym for the Italian phrase "Gran Turismo Iniezione" or the English "Grand Tourer Injection" and is typically written in capital letters - GTI.
The GTI was presented to Volkswagen management in early 1975, and the project was approved on May 28, 1975.
The Golf GTI debuted in March 1975 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
