The Meng SS016 model kit depicts the Russian air defense system 96K6 Pantsir-S1 in 1:35 scale. This advanced air defense system, also known by the NATO designation SA-22 Greyhound, is an evolution of the Tunguska system and was introduced into service in 2008. The Pantsir-S1 is a combination of a missile and artillery air defense system designed to combat low and ultra-low flying threats.

Historical and operational background: The Pantsir-S1 was designed to provide point defense for military, industrial, and administrative facilities against aircraft, helicopters, precision missiles, cruise missiles, and UAVs. This system is also used for additional protection of air defense units against enemy air attacks, especially at low altitudes.

The Pantsir-S1 consists of two 30 mm caliber 2A38M automatic guns and 12 surface-to-air missiles of the 57E6 series. The entire system is mounted on a KAMAZ-6560 8x8 truck chassis, providing excellent mobility in the field.

The Pantsir-S1 has been used in various conflicts around the world, including in Syria and Libya, where it has proven effective against a variety of aerial threats. This system is also part of the Russian air defense, where it works in conjunction with more advanced systems such as the S-300 and S-400, creating a multi-layered air defense.
