The heavy armored car Sd.Kfz. 232 (Schwere Panzerspähwagen 232) was a key element of the German Wehrmacht reconnaissance units in the mid-thirties. Effective management of reconnaissance and radio communication between units was an essential feature of fast-moving military operations known as Blitzkrieg. The Sd.Kfz. 232 model played an important role in meeting these needs.

The mobility of this six-wheeled vehicle, both on roads and off-road, was complemented by advanced radio communication equipment that was equally effective over short and long distances. A characteristic feature of the vehicle was the large frame antenna mounted above the hull, which in later versions was replaced by a vertical antenna. The armament placed in the turret provided sufficient firepower for both vehicle defense and advanced reconnaissance missions.
